Project Information
Proposal:
The theme of how language and culture can be two sides of the same coin has been fascinating me since I started my studies at Dawson. My project will be the culmination of my interests on culture and my love for art: I want to draw a graphic novel retelling my experience as a multilingual person in a multicultural society. I will focus on my experiences relating to language and culture at Dawson college, especially on how going to an English CEGEP impacted my life as it is the first time that I am immerse in this language completely.

The short graphic novel will contain short anecdotes or observations starring myself or sometimes my friends too. I will go for a simple slice-of-life stylization like Guy Delisle or Fishball. These styles are simple enough to not take away anything from the story while still helping get the point across. For my process, I will ink and sketch my comic strips traditionally and then, as a challenge, color them digitally with a digital painting software (Firealpaca). My goal for this project would be to give a bit of comfort to people who like me found the CEGEP experience isolating and not only because of COVID-19
